What to put on a creative CV
A creative CV can show some personality before anyone reads a word, as long as it stays easy to read. This creative CV template uses tinted paper, a heavy serif name beside a round photo, and your contact details in a row across the top. It suits creative, marketing, design, media, hospitality and customer-facing roles, where the look of your application says something about you.
It comes in blush pink, mint and sky blue paper, and the photo is optional. Fill it in and preview every page for free, with no account needed. Pay £4.99 once to download it as PDF and Word, with a matching cover letter included. It is A4 and laid out for UK applications, and the text is real and selectable. Switch to any other template at any time without losing a word.
Match the style to the employer
Look at the company's website and social media before you apply. A studio, agency, independent café or boutique hotel will often welcome a CV with some colour. A bank, council or law firm usually prefers something plainer, so keep a quieter version ready for those applications.
Let your work carry the design
A tinted page and a bold name get attention, but your experience is what gets you the interview. Put your strongest projects, campaigns or customer results near the top, and keep each bullet short and specific.
Link to your portfolio
For design, media and marketing roles, add a short link to your portfolio, website or showreel in the contact row. Check that it works, and make sure the first few pieces people see are your best and most recent.
Choose the photo with care
Most UK employers do not expect a photo, so only add one if it suits the role, such as front-of-house hospitality or some media jobs. Use a clear, recent head and shoulders shot with a plain background. If in doubt, leave it out.
Keep it to two sides of A4
One or two pages is right for almost every UK application. Use readable sizes for your body text, and leave out your age, date of birth and marital status, as employers do not need them.
Questions
Is a creative CV right for a corporate job?
Sometimes. A marketing or design role inside a large company can suit a creative layout, especially if the advert asks for creativity. For finance, legal or public sector jobs, a plainer layout is usually the safer choice. You can switch this CV to any other template without retyping it, so it is easy to keep both versions.
What should a creative CV include?
The same core sections as any UK CV: contact details, a short profile, your experience with the newest job first, your skills and your education. Add a portfolio link if you have one, and a few lines on projects or results that show your ideas worked. Keep the design consistent so the page is easy to scan.
Do I need a photo on a creative CV?
No. Most UK employers do not expect a photo, even for creative roles, and your portfolio usually matters far more. A photo can suit front-of-house or customer-facing jobs where your presentation is part of the role. The photo on this template is optional, so you can leave it out.
Which paper colour should I choose?
Pick the one that feels closest to the employer or the work you do. Blush pink is warm and friendly, mint feels fresh and calm, and sky blue is a little more classic. All three use the same layout, so you can try each one in the preview before you download.
