Will AI take my job?

Probably not all of it, but it may take enough to change what your job looks like. Find your role below to see how exposed it is, which tasks AI already does, what stays with a person and where people in your job can move.

If your job is not listed, answer six questions about what you actually do all day. It takes about two minutes and works from the same reasoning: which of your tasks AI can already do.

How this works

Our ratings judge how much of a role's everyday work current AI tools can already do or draft. Where the Department for Education's study of AI exposure across UK occupations covered a role, we say what it found. The questions version is a rough guide built on the same idea: drafting, analysing and following set procedures raise exposure; physical work in varied places, caring for or persuading people face to face, and personal accountability lower it.

None of this is a prediction that you will lose your job. Exposure usually means the job changes first.

If the answer is “quite a lot”

You do not need to start from nothing. The most useful next step is usually a move that keeps most of what you know and drops the parts AI is taking over. The career guides suggest those moves for each role, and Career Compass ranks careers from your own answers if you want to see what fits you rather than what fits the job title.

Questions people ask

Will AI take my job?

For most people, AI will take over some tasks rather than the whole job. Jobs made mostly of drafting, analysing and processing information are the most exposed; physical, hands-on and care roles are the least. Check your role above to see where it sits.

How accurate is this check?

It is a guide, not a prediction. The role ratings are our judgement of how much of each job current AI tools can do, informed by the DfE's occupational exposure study where it applies. The six-question version is rougher still, because two people with the same job title can do very different work.

What should I do if my job is highly exposed?

Look at the roles next to yours that reuse your knowledge but rely more on judgement, accountability or face-to-face work. Each career guide suggests three. If you are not sure which direction suits you, Career Compass ranks UK careers from your own answers.

Exposure ratings are our judgement of how much of each role's everyday work current AI tools can already do or draft; they measure exposure, not job losses. Occupation and sector findings are from the Department for Education, The impact of AI on UK jobs and training (November 2023).
