What to put on a teenager CV
Applying for a Saturday job, a part-time job or summer work as a teenager usually means writing your first CV. This teenager CV template is bold and friendly, with your initials in a colour column, your skills shown as tags and plenty of room for school, volunteering and anything you have done outside lessons. It has no photo, as is normal for UK CVs.
Fill it in here and preview every page for free, with no account needed. Pay £4.99 once to download it as PDF and Word, with a matching cover letter included. It comes in three colours, and you can switch to any other template at any time without losing a word. The pages are A4 in a UK layout.
Say when you can work
Shops, cafes and restaurants want to know your availability. Add a line such as Saturdays and school holidays, or weekday evenings after 4pm.
Put school first
Give your school or college, the subjects you are taking and any grades or predicted grades. Mention awards, good attendance or roles like prefect.
Use what you do outside school
Sports teams, Duke of Edinburgh, Scouts or Guides, music, babysitting or helping neighbours all show you are reliable and get on with people.
Keep the wording simple
Short sentences and real examples work best. One page is plenty, and a parent or teacher can read it over for spelling.
Check the rules for your age
Under 16s can only do certain kinds of work for limited hours, and some councils ask for a work permit. The employer should know the rules, but it helps to check too.
Questions
What should a teenager put on a CV?
Contact details, a short profile, school and subjects with grades, when you can work, skills with real examples, and activities such as sport, volunteering or clubs. One page is enough.
How old do you have to be to get a part-time job in the UK?
You can usually start light part-time work at 13, with limits on hours and the kind of work until you reach school leaving age. Some councils require a work permit for under 16s.
Do teenagers need a cover letter?
It helps, especially when you hand your CV in or email it. A few lines saying which job you want, when you can work and why you would be good at it is enough.
Is the teenager CV template free?
Filling it in and previewing are free, with no account. Downloading it as PDF and Word costs £4.99 once, with a matching cover letter included.
