Support workers help people live the life they choose, so employers look for evidence of independence gained, not just tasks done. This example is for supported living with adults who have a learning disability or are autistic. It shows positive behaviour support, the Oliver McGowan training and a driving licence, which many services ask for.

Key skills for a support worker CV
Person-centred support - Planning around what the person wants, and showing the independence they gained.
Positive behaviour support - Following PBS plans, recording incidents and noticing what helps.
Communication - Using easy read, Makaton, objects or routines to suit each person.
Mental Capacity Act - Supporting decisions and knowing when a best interests process applies.
Medication - Safe administration and accurate MAR charts, as trained.
De-escalation - Staying calm and reducing restrictive practice.

What a UK support worker CV needs
The people you have supported - Learning disability, autism, mental health, brain injury or older people, and in what setting: supported living, residential or outreach.
Oliver McGowan training - CQC-registered providers must train staff in learning disability and autism, and the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the standard. Give the tier you completed.
Care qualifications - The Care Certificate and a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.
Specialist training - Positive behaviour support, de-escalation, epilepsy and medication training, with dates.
Driving licence and DBS - Many adverts ask for a full UK licence, and every provider carries out an enhanced DBS check.

Support Worker CV questions
What is the difference between a support worker and a care worker?
They overlap. Support work usually focuses more on independence and community life, often with people who have a learning disability, autism or mental health needs. Care work tends to focus on personal care for older or disabled people.
Do I need qualifications to be a support worker?
Usually not to start. Employers train you, including the Care Certificate. A Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care helps you progress.
What is the Oliver McGowan training?
It is the standard training in learning disability and autism for health and social care staff, named after Oliver McGowan. Tier 1 is for general awareness and Tier 2 is for staff who support people directly.
