What to put on a care assistant CV

Care managers often need to know two things fast: when you can work and whether you have a DBS check. This care assistant CV template keeps both in the header, with soft rounded headings and a calm palette that suits care work. It fits care assistants, care workers and support workers in care homes or people's own homes, including people moving into care for the first time.

Fill it in and preview every page for free, with no account needed. When you are ready, pay £4.99 once to download it as PDF and Word, with a matching cover letter included. It is A4 and laid out for UK applications. Each design comes in three colourways, and you can switch to any other template at any time without losing a word.

Put your DBS and availability up front

Say whether you have an enhanced DBS check and whether it is on the Update Service. Then give the shifts you can work, such as days, nights, weekends or waking nights, so a manager can see where you fit on the rota.

Name your training

The Care Certificate, moving and handling, safeguarding adults, infection control, first aid and medication training are common in care. List what you have completed with the year, and mention a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care if you hold one.

Describe the care you give

Explain the support you provide, such as personal care, help at mealtimes, mobility, medication prompts and companionship. Mention the needs you know well, like dementia, learning disabilities or end of life care.

Show person-centred care

Give an example of how you got to know someone's routines, likes and history and used that in their care. Short, real examples show the values care employers look for when they shortlist.

Add a driving licence for home care

Domiciliary care means travelling between clients, so many providers ask for a full UK driving licence and access to a car. Say if you have both, or if you can cover a local area on foot or by public transport.

Questions

What should I put on a care assistant CV with no experience?

Lead with a short profile about why you want to work in care, then any caring you have done for family, volunteering or work with the public. Mention the Care Certificate if you have started it, your DBS status and your availability. Many employers train new starters, so show kindness and reliability.

Do I need a DBS check before applying for care jobs?

No. Most care employers arrange an enhanced DBS check after offering you a job. If you already have one, especially on the Update Service, say so on your CV, as it can help you start sooner. Give the date it was issued if you know it.

What is the Care Certificate?

It is a set of standards that new health and social care workers in England are expected to meet, covering areas such as safeguarding, privacy, dignity and person-centred care. Employers usually help you complete it during your induction. List it on your CV once it is done, or say it is in progress.

How long should a care worker CV be?

One or two sides of A4 is right for most care roles. Put your DBS, availability and training first, then your recent care work. Older or unrelated jobs can be one line each, as long as there are no unexplained gaps in your history.
