What to put on a sales CV
Sales is a results business, and a sales CV has to show your numbers, your market and the way you win business. This sales CV template uses blue-grey paper, a photo block in the corner and your name running up the side in huge capitals, with your dates in black tags so each role reads at a glance. It suits sales executives, business development, account management, field sales and telesales roles.
The photo is optional, and a monogram shows if you leave it out. It comes in blue, sand and sage. Fill it in and preview every page for free, with no account needed. Pay £4.99 once to download it as PDF and Word, with a matching cover letter included. It is A4 and laid out for UK applications, the text is real and selectable, and there is no subscription.
Lead with your results
Sales managers read for numbers. Under each role, give your target and how you did against it, the deals or accounts you won and where you ranked in your team, using your own figures. Keep each result to a single, clear line.
Say what you sold and to whom
Explain what you sold, the size of a typical deal and who your buyers were, such as small businesses, IT directors or homeowners. This helps a hiring manager judge how well your experience fits their market.
Show the whole sales cycle
Mention the stages you handled, from prospecting and cold calling to demos, negotiation, closing and growing accounts. Name the CRM you used, such as Salesforce or HubSpot, and any sales methods you have trained in.
Make your profile a pitch
Your profile is your opening pitch. In three or four lines, say what kind of seller you are, your sector and your strongest result, then what you want next. Tailor it to each company you apply to.
Keep it tight
Two sides of A4 is the most you need, so shorten older roles to a line each. Leave off your age and date of birth, and remember that most UK employers do not expect a photo, so the monogram is a safe choice.
Questions
What should a sales CV include?
Your contact details, a short profile, your roles with targets and results, the products or services you sold, the CRM and tools you use, and your education. Add a driving licence for field sales roles. Put your strongest numbers near the top so they are seen first.
How do I show sales results without sharing confidential figures?
Use performance against target, your ranking in the team or region, or rounded figures in place of exact revenue. You can also describe the type of accounts you won and how they grew. Check your contract if you are unsure what you are allowed to share.
How do I get into sales with no experience?
Highlight anything that shows you can persuade, build rapport and handle rejection, such as retail, hospitality, fundraising or part-time work with targets. Show you are motivated by results, and give a short example of a time you won someone over or beat a goal.
Is a sales assistant CV the same as a sales CV?
They overlap. A sales assistant CV is usually for a shop role and focuses on customer service, tills and in-store targets. A sales executive or business development CV puts more weight on pipeline, deals and accounts won. This template suits both, so shape the content to fit the job.
